THE TIPS AND TRICK BEGINNER ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW TO AVOID SPORTS INJURIES

When it comes to sports, injuries can be an inevitable occurrence. This is especially true in case of contact sports, such as roller derby or football, although practically all sports carry its own risk of injuries. This does not mean that there is nothing you can do to prevent sports injuries, however, and here are a few of them:

  • Understanding the importance of warming up and cooling down. Quite a lot of beginner athletes or those who are just beginning to take up a sports activity just for fun look down on warming up and cooling down exercises, as they can be overeager to be in the game instead of spending ten to fifteen minutes doing what might seem like boring, repetitive exercises. However, warming up helps you loosen your muscle and make you less susceptible to common sports injuries such as strains or sprains. Likewise, cooling down helps your spent and tired muscles to unwind so you do not spend the next morning in bed complaining about sore muscles.
  • Understanding the rules of the game. This might seem like a common sense tips, but a lot of over-eager beginners forget about even the most basic rules of the sports you are playing. Not only can this lead to you getting benched early on in the game for violating the rules, it can also be harmful to yourself and to others around you. Know what you can and cannot do to win, and learn about what behavior can land you with a foul–chances are, those moves that are considered to be off-limits are due to the fact that they can be highly harmful and even outright dangerous to yourself and to other players. If you are playing a team sport where players each has their own individual roles, such as soccer, basketball, or football, knowing more about your role and its duty can also help you stay out of harm’s way as well.
  • Wear the appropriate gear. Each sporting equipment has their own different function, and using the wrong equipment or inappropriate gear, or even skipping out of wearing the appropriate gear altogether for reasons such as ignorance or laziness, can be extremely dangerous to your physical health. Choose the right attire for the right sports–do not use tennis shoes to run, for instance, no matter how similar they might look like to untrained eyes. Riskier sports, such as football, baseball, or hockey might require you to wear a lot of equipments, from helmet to knee guards to protective cup, and while they might seem like a huge hassle to put on, remember that those protection exist for a reason. Nobody wants to end up in the ER from a concussion thanks to not wearing a helmet. Not only will wearing the appropriate gear help you prevent any potential injuries, the right attire might boost your performance whereas the wrong equipment or gear can end up being a hindrance to your performance in general.
